Not every egress window job is a straight shot from excavation to finish. Sometimes you dig in and find something unexpected - like a gas line sitting right where the window needs to go. That's exactly what happened here, and it's a good example of why experience and planning matter on these jobs.

We coordinated with Avista to get the gas line rerouted before we could move forward. That's not a step you skip or rush. Getting the utility work done right kept everything on track and - more importantly - kept the job safe. Code-compliant egress window installs touch on a lot more than just cutting a hole in the foundation wall.

Once the excavation was complete and the prep work was done, the rest of the install came together cleanly. You can see how the finished window wells sit flush against the foundation, surrounded by crushed gravel for proper drainage. The steel grates on top keep debris out while still allowing the window to function as a legitimate emergency exit - which is the whole point.

Egress windows are one of those upgrades that quietly do a lot of work. They bring natural light into basement spaces, add ventilation, and - most critically - give occupants a safe way out in an emergency. Without them, finished basements often can't be legally classified as livable space. That affects your home's value and your family's safety.

Every step on a job like this matters - from calling in utility crews to the final gravel grade around the well. We don't cut corners on the parts homeowners can't see, because that's where problems show up later.
